When I was a very little girl, I found a bunch of beautiful beach stones and brought them home.
I took them out into the backyard and washed them off with the hose. I put them away in a plastic margarine container to keep so I could go out and marvel at their beauty occasionally.
I would fill the little bucket with water and loved that the colours in the stones got more intense.
I left them in the container full of water long into the fall.
In the winter I found them frozen into clear ice.
I asked my parents if I could keep them in the freezer so they would stay frozen in the glasslike ice and I could look at them in the warmth of indoors.
I took them out one afternoon. I think I even took a blurry picture to try to preserve them. But the ice melted quickly and I was so disappointed.
I can spend hours staring into bubbles around rocks in ice.
