It’s been a more gentle winter than last year. But it’s been cold. Very cold.
In spite of the sun, there have been plenty of dark days.
On January 1st I trimmed some branches from my forsythia and forced them indoors.
Since the 10th, when it bloomed, I’ve had this beautiful bouquet bringing colour into the house.
I love the structure of the forsythia. The tiny flowers on the hardwood branches.
But where’s the colour you ask.
I can’t help but feel a touch of spring when I see them.
He was thrilled to be allowed up on a table for the shoot.
After a while he gave me this look. I think he’s done with the camera in his face. Thanks.
And really, it’s all about the forsythia.
Lovely messenger of spring.
Even as you lose your blossoms, the warm days grow closer.

Oh, and by the way – I have a studio here in my warm and friendly home.
If you’re looking for a head shot or family portrait, get in touch.
I’d forgotten that forsythia can be forced! unfortunately, I don’t have access to any that wouldn’t feel like stealing if I clipped a couple of branches, but I’m so happy you posted this so I can live vicariously through you 😉
I forgot too, going to DO THIS.
PS esther love the pic but man you make me miss my kitt-ieees
BUT on the upside, I can now have things like indoor plants without worry of cats eating them
Opp is good, usually, about not eating the plants. But he is a total hellraiser in most other regards.
I absolutely love forsythia, and this post!
Almost makes me want to get a cat again! Forsythia reminds me of being in England in the winter, it’s absolutely vibrant! Thanks Esther!
